After successful pilot in Boston Soofas are available in the U.S.
The MIT Media Lab spinoff Changing Environments Inc. installed Soofas in Boston with the support of the Mayors office and funding from Cisco. The solar-powered benches are currently installed in 5 locations providing free charging to the public – on average 8 hours per day per Soofa. A larger roll-out is planned as more than 400 people engaged in a crowdsourcing effort searching for the next Soofa locations – proof that people love Soofa. Soofa is also connected to the Internet showing us number of users and power generated on soofa.co.
“Your cell phone doesn’t just make phone calls, why should our benches just be seats? The startup is working on offering public wifi as well.”
To spread the love and get the startup off the ground, the team is selling Soofas to cities and space owners in the Early Adopter Program : http://www.soofa.co/get-soofas/
